A Springtime Hello
Big changes are happening everywhere in the world. So many of the loudest changes are destructive and harmful. We are in a time of peeling back the layers of myth that patriarchy and colonialism and modernity have created. The strengths and limits of nearly every system are being tested and found wanting. Our leaders are causing and/or seem unequipped to stop the death and destruction of people, cultures, climates, and dreams all over the globe. Many of the people I know and love are also experiencing quieter more personal change, some grappling with grief and loss, others finding beautiful space for creativity and a different kind of freedom, and for many people, both at the same time.
For me– for the first time in 22 years– I don't work for an organization. I just finished winding down the operations of an organization I ran for 5 years. Now, I'm setting out, not on my own, but in several small clusters and communities to do a different kind of work. I am designing new offerings that combine what I learned about good endings during the last 18 months of sun-setting Root Cause with what I have learned about living with purpose and care from my mentor, Tom. I will offer practical and strategic support that is grounded in companionship, and co-regulation to other leaders and organizations that are working through difficulty right now. I want to help leaders and organizations assess themselves, face uncertainty, and figure out how to change or end with care for the people and resources that could go on to do more good in the world.
I'm also painting with watercolor, oil, and encaustic wax. I'm learning the tarot, and building playlists for friends, and I am dreaming up a pop-up dinner club with one of my beloved offspring (they both got grown so fast in such hard times.) If Puerto Rican/American South(eastern) fusion with gorgeous rum cocktails and jugo de parcha sound good to you, stay tuned.
All these endeavors feel like new buds on an old (me) tree that have been gathering nutrients like experience, love, learning/unlearning, and bravery over all these years and are ready to bloom. If you're reading this, I'm glad you are here. I hope you'll consider joining me for something soon!
